I live on a farm & have fed raw for the last 5 yrs. I can buy chicken quarters at Walmart in a 10lb bag at a cost per lb of 60 cents. You can't buy cheap dog food (which is made of corn & chicken feathers) for that price.
I have chickens, peacocks, geese & turkeys. In the past I have tried to feed my dogs chickens I've raised. Even when they are cleaned to look just like store bought chicken - they won't eat them. It's really strange but they refuse - it'll just lay there until I pick it up. Don't know why or if other dogs are the same way but mine refuse. I have dachshunds, briards, collie, mastiff, english bulldog, bull terrier, & a dobie mix.
