There are plenty of other ways to defer bots.
I don't use CAPTCHA on www.postjobfree.com at all.
And you know what -- the hardest part was to deal with spam generated by humans, not by bots.
Fortunately we were able to automate spam moderation too (no CAPTCHA as usual): http://postjobfree.blogspot.com/2009/06/postjobfr...

If humans have less than 100 years to prepare -- everyone would die.
But even 100 years of preparation would give only slim chance of survival.
Humans have trouble with having autonomous civilization in antarctic winter (-70C). That's almost nothing in comparison with no Sun at all.
