Oh noes, political/social/religious discussion of pandora box proportions!

In the midst of all this, a ray of real hope: that people have been contributing overwhelmingly to this cause to help people through an unthinkable tragedy. Let's spread the love and hope for a change once in a while, yeah? The political/intellectual debate about what these people said is interesting and all, but there are hundreds of thousands of people still in need too. That's the real story, in the end. This is all petty when you think about the desperation of all those people frightened, desperate and dying. I've been through some pretty major disasters myself and I can tell you as a certainty that these people do not care about poll numbers or ratings. They want to find their loved ones and make sure their children survive through this.

Thank you if you have donated. If you cannot afford to, spread the word. Pray for these people, think good thoughts. Hating/controversy/arguing is easy. Compassion is what takes work.

Extra funny: Eli really does have some kind of strange devotion to Edward James Olmos. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why he doesn't already have this shirt in real life.

I kinda want to see this movie, but mostly in the dollar-theater/drive-in-movie sense. I hear it's Juno dialogue mixed with mostly shitty horror. It's funny but I thought Juno's dialogue was GENIUS the first time I watched it. Within 2 minutes of my second viewing I had changed my mind. Still a good movie but really, it gets a little annoying hearing the characters yammer on in kitschy semi-hipster dialogue.

Oooh yeah I remember that now. That was a little messed up. I think after reading that scene I put the book down for a few days before finally finishing it. Oogey factor!

I read the book and it had an interesting premise I suppose but it didn't really deal with anything science fiction-y. It's mostly a romance, with a dash and sprinkling of sci fi. It's ok I suppose but I didn't find it especially moving. Both characters got a little annoying at times and are pretty unrelatable (for more than the obvious reason of time-traveling). There was also the creepy factor for me: since the guy time travels (involuntarily) he meets his wife when she's just a child, so she knows him since she's 5 and is basically in love with him her whole life. I dunno, I suppose that's romantic but to me that was a little on the creepy side of things. I watch a lot of Law and Order SVU though.

Goddammit, this made me laugh/made me sad mostly because of that post it twitter about meatball subs... Eli and I constantly have to work together like Darmok and Jalad against Kurby's hunger for cheese.

i was a fan from the start... i was one of those rabid fans who waited breathlessly at the bookstore on release day. i wonder if i'm alone in this but although the movies have always been enjoyable, they took a lot of the charm out of the books for me. the first three books blew my mind but by the 4th book, i wasn't as stoked. maybe because it took her longer to finish it, maybe the style had just shifted at that point, maybe i had such a different image in my head from what i saw in the movies, maybe a combination of all those things but the "magic" had left me.

from all the recommendations, it might be worth it to revisit the series as audiobooks and just go through them one right after the other. has anyone else done this?

That nedroid comic just saved me $10. In theory. Because I was not going to watch it.
