Could be an issue with permissions. Try to run Onyx and fix the filesystem permission. You can also fix the filesystem permission if you boot from the Snow Leopard CD.

Hi Sally. What's the output like when you run Console? Here's a screenshot of the Console app in action http://yfrog.com/0dscreenshot20100202at111p</a> . Have you tried booting with the Snow Leopard disc and then repairing the permissions? Some of the issues can usually be fixed using this method. The drastic step is to wipe out your hard drive and do a clean install of Snow Leopard.
