yea i also tried to jailbreak with 0.8, it was stuck on the waiting to reboot. Then i used 0.72 and it worked on the very first try! I'm also on iphone 3G, but on a intel mac

are you using 3G or 3Gs? I had the same problem on iphone 3G, then i used redsn0w 0.72 and everything was fine

I wouldn't, i decided to rejailbreak with redsn0w 0.8 on my iphone 3G and it just refused to work for me, so yea, if it ain't broke...

yea, looks like most people are not having issues jailbreaking 3gs, i wish more 3g users would speak up! haha

I definitely used the right ipsw... i think i'll stick with redsn0w 0.72.

at this point, i think 0.8 hates my iphone 3G, tried to jailbreak twice and failed because it was stuck at waiting to reboot...

so i downloaded 0.72 again and was jailbroken in under 5 min

yep same problem with me, i tried jailbreaking twice with 0.8... and i even restored to factory settings!

0.72 worked like a charm

So i'm on an iphone 3G and decided to jailbreak using redsn0w 0.8. I restored to OS 3.0 and then restored all my settings/preferences from backup and then attempted to jailbreak using redsn0w 0.8, but I was stuck on the first "waiting for reboot" screen after entering DFU mode. I have jailbroken before so i'm not a complete noob and used the ipsw from my itunes folder.

i'm having the same issue with the new redsn0w. I used 0.72 on my intel mac to jailbreak iphone 3G and everything was fine. On 0.8, I can't get past the first "waiting for reboot" screen...
