Well, since Bill didn't give us much to chew on, I'll ask a question I've been wanting to ask Mobsters for a while. First, a comment. I really enjoy Doc's blog. I think his writing style fits it very well. But I usually don't enjoy his columns. Too choppy.

Question: Does anybody remember Mark Purdy? I think he wrote for The Post. I thought he was great. Very funny and always made a point in a unique way. I think he's in San Jose now.

My favorite pure writer in Cincinnati sports was a guy who's name I can't recall. I believe he's the guy Doc replaced at the Enquirer. He was a real wordsmith. What was his name? Anybody know where he is now?

Just to nitpick, BP did not start the fight at home plate, the catcher did. Sure, BP set the tone with his "w-l-b's" remark, but the catcher made it a physical confrontation. I know, BP hit his shinguard with his bat, but he does (did?) that every game.

"If anything, this fight will restore XU v UC to prime time television. Because like it or not, the public loves this stuff. That's all ESPN cares about."

Absolutely true. And you can be sure that the fight footage will be a big part of the promotion leading up to the game.

Gotta be protected class. If you and I were playing in a church league that had a penalty of being expelled from the game and/or league for fighting, there would still be charges if I attacked you physically, or vice versa.
