On the surface, I find this column self serving and condescending. Looking at the photo in the link below: http://gazetteonline.com/files/2010/07/medicalmal...
I can't see why they can't put the actual building within the city block where the proposed parkade is shown and build the parkade over 2nd ave. I'm not sure what the parking area across 10th Street is and why what appears to be a skywalk is Ok there. The good doctor doesn't want to inconvenience the 2000 patients but fails to consider the thousands more that will be inconvenienced with the closing of 2nd Ave. The argument that our streets can currently accommodate the change in traffic flow doesn't fly with me since it's been acknowledged that Third Ave will need to be widened in the near future and previously 1st Ave was being considered for the same. Traffic counts are currently down now because of the impact of both the flood and the current economic downturn. Our current leaders either aren't looking to the future or don't care. It does seem to me that they are taking the general public for a bunch of fools.

"Relative to proportions"

Percentages are proportions, no? You didn't source your statistics, so are we to assume they came from the KKK?

You just want to see how far I'll go along with you before I call you on being off the subject, don't you? I believe I did that in my previous post. Otherwise if you had a particular point to make you would just say it.

Oh but I had fun with a couple of young men the other day. I started with Christianity, then told them I was considering becoming an agnostic or even an atheist By the time they were almost tired of me trying to convince them that was the way to go, I brought up Buddhism. I'm pretty sure they won't be back.

I have no idea:
1) how many Muslims use the Bible.
2) what this has to do with the letter we are commenting on.

Very well put shotfeel. It's respectful discussions that allow us to grow with the knowledge presented from those who may have opposing beliefs. Personally, I understand what many have to say here even if I disagree. I find several here who refuse to accept that others may have an opinion different from their own. The ones who are presented with facts but refuse to accept them are also many of the same who present their own 'facts' and fail to provide proof. Religion is one of those areas where belief tends to super cede fact. In this case, there really is no right or wrong.

That is not what I said. But you know that too. The subject of the video clip said nothing of any particular religion. If anything, he grouped all religions together. It is you and you alone who are trying to make it a Christian vs. Muslim issue. Shame shame shame.

"Under your example has come the freedom to scorn what other people regard as holy. We can be grateful that it is unacceptable for one to permit himself to mock that which is holy to Jews or Muslims. But many have come to view as one of the basic rights of freedom the right to pull down from its pedestal what Christians regard as holy and heap it with ridicule."

I appears as if the letter writer is blaming our president for encouraging people to mock the Christian religion. If anything, I see it as leveling the playing field so to speak. For years it has been 'acceptable' in our society to 'mock' religions other than Christianity but making any disparaging remarks regarding Christianity is met with scorn and ridicule. All religions should be on equal footing. No one religion should be afforded a higher status in our society than any other.
The basic rights of freedom to pull down from the pedestal applies to every religion.

Muslims and the Koran? This video clip and your comments have little if anything to do with each other. But you know that.
