I also disliked Gran Torino. It was one of the biggest cinematic surprises for me in terms of disappointment level mainly because of all the hype and praise. Not only was the dialogue and acting trite and unconvincing the song he sings at the end had me and my friend rolling on the ground in laughter. I just couldn't take the thing seriously which maybe makes it a decent comedy.

I also registered just to comment on this movie which I just got back from seeing. My initial reaction is that I definitely need to see it again, but in 2D. This was the first 3D movie I'd ever seen and, though I thought it was well done, i found it more of an inconvenience than a benefit. Those Real-d glasses really darken the picture and when a movie is supposed to be as vibrant and colorful as Up I really don't want any added darkness. The chase sequence and many other key moments looked amazing in 3D but I don't know how I feel about the technology as a whole.

As far as the film itself, I love Pixar movies and believe they tell some of the most compelling stories and that didn't change for Up. It was a wonderful tale of an elderly man's journey that hit just the right spots in my funny bone and heart bone. That said, I didn't like some of the more fantastic elements of the plot like the bird angle or all of the dogs....it seemed almost too bizarre and really took me out of the overall story. I understand that Pixar movies have no bounds and they can do anything they want but it almost felt random...I don't know. I loved the movie though and will definitely see it again.
