Great idea for a presentation! Not to give away anything, but we live by this: (ARPU-CPU/Churn)-COA. Magic #s for all to understand.

i'm agreeing with this too. Matalin adds nothing to the conversation. Yes, it's somewhat predictable each show, but I'm hoping Mary's gone soon. (and Ariana's back, as she always adds a somewhat different slant to the regular viewpoints.)

Obama has minimal control over the price of gas. There's probably more control by people whose interests are, in fact, contrary to Obama's. So running the price of gas up before elections begin reduces Obama's credibility by those who believe that somehow the President of the United States gets up in the morning and pegs gas prices across the country. (which I'm sure many people do)

I think the interesting part of this is in niche segments. Clients usually fall into a particular industry and those that really know the industry well generally use niche social networks. I can use HomeStars (who I work for) as one example of a niche small business site which is it's own little network. I'm sure sysomos and every other monitoring system could care less about us, however some of the most popular pages are for large companies which should pay attention.

I'd add that companies who deal in local services should pay attention to social media sites that focus on their niche. When people think of social media they instantly focus on sites like twitter and facebook. But there are other niche site, like ours at HomeStars.com, focussed on Home Improvement but also sites like Yelp, which provide local reviews. If you're a local restaurant, you'll need to pay attention to Yelp because that's where your customers are looking.
I"m sure there are tons of social media sites which address many niche markets, whether it be review sites, or even just niche topic sites or merchant barter sites within particular verticals. Hopefully sysomos is looking at these types of sites and tracking leads from these sites to asses business opportunities.

It's also not just the writing that takes the time. Writing some good words or a solid opinion is good, but blogging is about linking to other good, original content which takes your reader to some of the sources of your opinion, and linking takes time. When I write for my blogs, it takes almost as much or more time adding relevant and important links as it does to write the actual post.

It's very much worth sending a message to support at twitter. While the site says it'll take upto thirty days, it actually took less than a few hours. A friend friendly customer support agent (@tiger -(aka. the blue ranger of Twitter spam) and I thank her for doing so) fixed me up quickly. Talk about underpromise and overdeliver! With a service as large as Twitter, I thought I'd be waiting for weeks, but their customer service just blew me away. That's how you keep users! It's as many community managers say - build for the scale, treat every customer service request as a real human.

Good post. I'm looking after 4 blogs right now, and all of them when I sign in recommend the upgrade right when it's available. (my company blog is on a separate secure server so the upgrade required logging in on SFTP using another program and carefully putting folders and files in the right place) So the issue is whether that's enough. Or whether there's fear of upgrading because certain features might not become available. Did Scoble not upgrade when recommended? does he have so many features up that he's worried some of them might not work?

It reminds me that I posted on my www.think-forward.ca blog last week that when I upgraded my OS to snow leopard (figuring there's many benefits, including security) my Rogers Rocket Stick was made inoperable.

So the question still becomes: what is the risk of upgrading, vs the reward of new features or security?
Wordpress's attitude is that everyone should upgrade, features and plug-in be darned. That's not everyone's attitude.

That's a ridiculous argument. I live in Canada, where the government pays for all health care and I have never seen any such panel, or even seen any doctor or medical professional even bring up the thought. My father has Alzheimers, and is in an assisted living facility paid for 100% by the government. His ex wife took his money early on in his disease, so he's living on his social security cheques alone.
Not once have I had even the slightest possible hint from anyone who has to pay for his facilities from the government or from the facility itself that they would encourage him or me to make any decisions to end his life early. Exactly the opposite.
Sometimes in the thought of regulation, we forget that human nature just isn't set up this way.

What is amazing is that this discussion about universal health care goes on. But the reason it does has less to do with health care, and more to do with government lobbying. Until Obama deals with that issue, too many public officials will continue to get donations and be lobbied by health and insurance companies, and nothing will be done.
