For what it's worth, what you say here is in line Christ's teachings, especially the part about doing things for public notice or other earthly rewards.

Also, as a Christian, I would say:
We do virtuous acts not in hope of receiving a future reward from God; but, in gratitude for what He has already done for us.

As A.C. said, That's assuming that there is no overlap between the two groups. But, it still shows that military men are more stable than civilian men -- something that matches my personal experience.

Anyway, I've come to come to distrust almost all statistics (liberal ones especially). Try reading "How to lie with statistics" sometime.
