The environment is often the last thing on our minds when a natural disaster strikes. That's why it's so important to plan ahead and consider environmental impacts when there isn't a disaster to deal with. One environmental hazard that seems to always accompany disasters is plastic water bottles. Planning ahead by including Lifestraws or a filtered water bottle like backpackers use is a much better plan. It produces a lot more clean water, and doesn't harm the environment. FEMA, Red Cross, and other disaster relief groups should do their planning to include a means to filter water, rather than passing out bottled water.
