Reminds me of being stationed in Iceland. Saw a lot more greens in the summer and purples in the winter (if you could see through the clouds).

Yeah..I've seen what a Mark 48 torpedo can do to a decommissioned destroyer or LST. Luckily, I got out before I had the chance to experience one first hand.

I spent two tours on aircraft carriers and never saw anything as dumb/asinine come from an officers mouth as what I've seen from this story. No matter how you look at it, it's not befitting of a Naval Officer or the leadership officers are supposed to provide.

There are better ways of keeping up crew morale on a CVN that's been out to sea for more than 30 days straight. Been there, done that.

I drove past that cross for nearly 15 years while stationed or living in San Diego and it's sad that something iconic for war vets has to come down just because someone doesn't like it.

I guess the founding fathers never thought that the freedom of religion would ever be challenged by those that have no religion.

Has this platform even seen an overseas deployment yet? Seems like a waste of money considering the weapons systems in development these days...and what does this platform have over an Arleigh Burke class - savings? Just like the Cyclone..it looks pretty and fast but do we really need a littoral command ship?

Why send a plane when you can send a GPS guided missile from a ship which can be allocated anywhere. Same with amphib landings.
