Yea!!! I just won a $50 bet.

I wrote something earlier that has not yet appeared. Don't know why but the post had to be with anomalies in statistics.

Yea!!! I just won a $50 bet.

My bet was that soon a study would be out showing increased pot was found in accidents.

Now you have to know just a wee bit of statistics to see the big hole in this study. Where are the variables? Oops not there are they?

You introduce a variable such as pot can be used legally, therefore pot will show up more often in the sampling. Now the crux of this little bit of leg pulling is this - the proof that pot was the reason for the crash.

The NHTSA uses the same bad statistical analysis in their alcohol involved accident database. My reason for this belief is this -

Anytime there is an accident and "ANYONE" has alcohol in their blood stream it is noted in the database as alcohol related.

At an accident scene these would be noted as alcohol related -

1. Driver isn't drinking, passenger is drinking
2. Bicyclist is drinking, driver of car is not drinking
3. Pedestrian is walking, driver is not drinking

The stats that we hear on a routine basis about alcohol related accidents contain the above three and more anomalies.

Even peer reviewed articles are suspect. There was a recent scandal that was noted on July 10th 2014. "Scholarly journal retracts 60 articles, smashes ‘peer review ring’"

So read what you will but just understand the question that the client asked the CPA --- client: "what does 2 plus 2 equal?" CPA - "what do you want it to equal?"

Davec yes ethanol does absorb (attract) water but it also creates phase separation, absorbs water from other sources but it is NOT isopropyl alcohol. Ethanol enriched gas has a shorter shelf life than the non-ethanol gas.

Do you think that just because isopropyl alcohol is added in your tank that the H2O magically disappears? No that isn't what happens. It changes the structure so that the water can pass through your fuel filter, your injectors and be burned in your combustion chamber. Too much phase separation that was brought about by ethanol would mean there isn't any magic elixir to me added to your tank. It is time for mechanical work.

If ethanol is so wonderful, consider what the FAA said about ethanol in airplane gas - http://www.eaa.org/autofuel/saibs/10_27_06%20-%20...

"The FAA says (what we all knew) -- ethanol has approximately 73 percent of the energy content of automobile gasoline. The greater the amount of alcohol in the automobile gasoline, the greater
the reduction in the aircraft’s range. "

So we are paying a lot more for gasoline and we can't go as far on that gallon of ethanol laced gas.

Ethanol is a problem in the gasoline supply chain and the public deserves to know. So if you are trying to cover the truth I ask...who is the real troll? Hint...it isn't the people telling the problems of ethanol.

Can we all say ethanol? I would make a large bet that it is ethanol that cracked someplace in a big tank. Ethanol likes to attract water. By cracked I mean that the water ethanol attracted, split from the gasoline and a lot of people received a lot of water laced gasoline. Fuel pumps, injectors, hoses, etc. do not play well with ethanol.

Ethanol enriched gasoline has made the small engine business very lucrative. Lawn mowers, chain saws, anything with a carburetor is at risk with ethanol enriched gasoline. The older stuff is at a bigger risk. You can get it to work but you need to drill bigger holes in the carb jets, change fuel lines etc.

So what you have is an ethanol business that is subsidized by the taxpayers....we pay.
You have ethanol enriched gas that does harm to cars - we pay
Ethanol enriched gasoline means less miles per gallon - we pay

Off topic a bit........

We had cash for clunkers. A program that created a supply problem in the used car market and has created a spike in used car prices. So the people that can't afford to buy used cars took it in the neck. And again the public pays due to government endorsed programs.

Well the commodity market is very volatile and sensitive to news. When the US President says we won't be drilling in the Atlantic or the Gulf.....what do you think will happen? The world spot price goes up.

So today if the President wanted to give a Christmas present to us he should open his mouth and say "we are going to start drilling in the Gulf, the Atlantic and we are going to help fund the building of oil refineries in the USA.

It is the news and threat of what is coming that moves commodities.

All the big money like the pension funds will get spooked and back out of their positions. Years ago pension funds wouldn't have gotten close to a commodities contract but now they will take the chance. That is big, big money and can also help make a volatile market become more volatile.
