I am reminded of "All Quiet on the Western Front" where young men are seduced into spilling their blood and intestines across foreign dirt by old men lusting after their idols of nations and philosophies and isms and such. The ridiculous propaganda enticing them to fight for "freedom" cannot stand to show the real consequences of war.

Who exactly are we sparing from these images? The soldiers who are already there, who see bodies everyday? No, we hide these images from fresh bodies yet to be enrolled and conscripted. Because if some 17 year old boy were to see that, he might think twice about signing up, that maybe it won't be like a video game, that he will see and smell a real "headshot" and piss his pants. And the family and friends of the slain may release their clench on minature flags and really really question if their precious boy died for nothing.
