There only seems to be a mild interest in the Phoenix area. Phoenix is becoming a pro sports town, and perhaps the worst thing that ever happened to college football in this city was the Cardinals going to the Super Bowl. I would guess the Tucson area is hyped, but not to the extent of a PAC-10 rivalry game. I think the U of A people are kind of holding there collective breath wondering if Stoops will really get that program turned around, and therefore do see it as a breakthrough game.

As a weatherman working in Phoenix I can tell you that practicing in Iowa in August is far worse heat wise than anything that is going to encountered in Tucson during the evening. One note of caution though, it is so dry you can become dehydrated without knowing it, and that can lead to cramps. The big concern? You can bet Mike Stoops really, really wants to win this game, and has been planning accordingly.

Yes, Texas and ND are the big prizes, but Nebraska is a no brainer. Some of my Big 10 buddies won't want to hear this, but I can make a case that Nebraska has a more impressive football history than any team in the Big 10. Arguably the 2 greatest teams ever assembled 71 and 95. The greatest game ever played vs OU in 71. One can only wonder how many national titles Nebraska would have won if the Orange Bowl was played in a placed like Kinnick or the Big House, as opposed to always playing some Florida team in Miami. NU to the Big 10 makes sense for both Big 10 and NU. By the way, trivia question...Where did Barry Alverez play football?

Probably not in the spirit of this article, but how about University of Phoenix Stadium, as soon as this January?

To the over 50 crowd ND is a big deal, but the biggest financial prize is Texas. If I'm Delany, the first thing I do is invite Missouri. Missou currently makes 12 mil less a year than Minnesota (who hasn't fielded a decent football team since 1960). Missou bolts in a minute. Now Nebraska get's worred the Big 12 power has shifted fully to the south, and Tom Osborn is no dummy. In the interests of self preservation, Nebraska applies, and is readily accepted.

Now Texas has the following options. Go to the SEC, but that is no academic match. Reform the Southwest Conference (is there money in doing that?), Go to the Pac 10, but the travel is just as bad, and the money is not as good. Texas and A&M join the "west" division of the Big 10 where the travel issues are not all that bad.

Still one slot left. You sure you're not interested ND?

Looks like the National Weather Service provided a near perfect forecast for this "major" storm.

Of course they are idiots when they forecast 4 inches of snow and you only get 2.

No Penn State fan is ever allowed to complain about officiating. Here is the non call from a 1982 game against Nebraska that won Penn State a national title. Penn St scored on the next play as the game ended. It was Nebraska's only loss of the season. The game was played at Happy Valley. The receiver caught the ball somewhere next to the water cooler.
