It's much more than just the fact you can have your own website/URL. Services like Blogger.com, LiveJournal and Wordpress.com limit the things you can do with your installation, so more advanced customizations are limited to what is offered within their system. Some very advanced things can still be accomplished, but it is often more trouble than it's worth. Let's also talk about SEO. When you have a highly optimized website, on your own domain / IP, it's just better. Your websites will perform better in SERP's as a result of taking these extra steps.

Now let's talk money... Since you own the database / content and all related files, the web property is more attractive to buyers than something built up on a free service. What happens if they delete your account? Where does all that content go? These are all important things to consider when choosing a place to host your blog.

They are one of the cheapest, about $5 a month. This is so your Wordpress Blog can exist somewhere on a server, so other people can access it. Bluehost gives you a server with all the tools, utilities and resources to begin setting up your website. Without a host, you can't even begin, so I would start there. They have great support, you can call them 24/7.
