I'd be fine with PSU as a consolation prize.

Hopeful optimism: this kind of depth won't be so rare in the future, and that our current talent at receiver is due to Erik Campbell's coaching. Iowa got him from Michigan when Rodriguez purged the staff there.

I'm an Iowa alum, now a grad student in upstate NY. I overheard the following on the bus a few months ago:

Student 1: You're from the west, aren't you? Montana? Utah? Iowa?
Student 2: Ha ha no, Idaho. You're from Chicago, aren't you?

1. I can't get too upset if PSU is chosen for the Fiesta in Iowa's stead; we were the beneficiaries of the same we-have-more-fans injustice last year by jumping Northwestern for the Outback. Not only did they have the head-to-head win, but they had a better record after the regular season!

2. TCU. Highest ranked opponent = biggest challenge = best reward for victory.

3. As much as I would like again to beat an SEC team, I'd rather blaze new trails.

4. I'll probably try to catch them on TV?

5. This drives me crazy. The "Our perception of Tiger has changed forever" hyperbole only proves that the perceivers hold unrealistic mental pictures of celebrities. Tiger is human.

6. Do whatever you want as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

I live four hours north of Happy Valley, but "live" on a grad student's salary. So... is Hlas going? Dochterman? I'll do my best impression of one of them if I can get an unused press pass. I can carry myself with the dignity and class befitting a member of the esteemed profession of journalism (Will flattery get me anywhere?). Do you need someone to carry your notebooks?

Ine-sway u-flay?!

If that is the cause, then I'm going to hang my hopes on Bulaga coming back with such ferocity that they dub H1N1 "Bulaga flu", and speak of it in hushed Bryan-latin.

Hmm. The team that played better most of Saturday lost, but I don't know that the better team lost. I think Iowa wins this one nine times out of ten. Maybe 7/10.

Iowa didn't realize they were playing a real football game until the second half. You can say that a better team would play 60 minutes no matter the opponent, and that the 'better team' is determined strictly by what happens on the field (and not defined by their potential). But if that's the case, then what happened on the field is still Iowa 17, UNI 16. Special teams don't do much for stats like first downs (which Iowa won), yards, or time of possession, but on Saturday the punt team and the field goal unit carried the day.

There are 38 pockets on a roulette wheel, and two of them are green: the 0 and the 00. There are three ways to win on green: by betting on the 0, by betting on the 00 (odds: 1/38 for either one), or by betting on "row 00", which wins if the ball lands in 0 or 00 (odds: 2/38).

The most literal way to interpret Stanzi's comment would be that hitting "back-to-back greens" means winning "row 00" twice in a row, which means that the odds are (2/38)*(2/38) = 0.00277 = 0.277% chance.
