I'm not so sure.
The fact that the primaries is not shaping up to a Bush/Clinton race is a sign the foundations of big money establishment politics is cracking.
Smart politicos survive by knowing when and how to change horses. Neither Trump or Sanders want donors' money - for very different reasons of course - but the effect on the elites is the same. It will be interesting to see how the cunning will hedge their bets. Which will earn more points? Helping HRC and hubby get into the White House or helping Trump or Sanders win - and letting them know you did?

Pat is right to be worried.
But he's wrong if he thinks that knowing what happened in the past has any influence on what could happen now.
All that can be gleamed from the study of history is that - like the weather - the ingredients that matter are constant. For the weather, its the elements; for history its human nature. So the weather and history will both continue to dish up variations of the same basic themes.
What may save us from international war is the return to dominance of tribal mores as displayed in varying degrees by ISIS (or whatever name you prefer), the collapse of the nation-state borders and cohesion all across the ME - including Israel - and Africa and the virulent divisiveness gaining momentum in the USA, EU and elsewhere.
The citizens are escaping and on the move globally. And that may be a good thing.

Was Incitatus at the closed briefing in the Senate?
We could do with some horse sense.
Instead of the stuff from his other end.

Maybe it is possible.
When Ireland was in the grip of UK Imperial power it turned to Daniel O’Connell, the robust street politician who prided himself on his ability to overturn a constitution by constitutional means, and "drive a legal coach and four through legislation". He brought about Catholic Emancipation and sowed the seeds for the promise to restore Home Rule. This promise was later rescinded, but that led to open rebellion and, eventually, to setting up the Irish Republic.
O'Donnell also campaigned in the UK parliament against slavery and was a good friend of Frederick Douglass. When Obama was in Ireland he paid particular tribute to "one Irishman who had never set foot on American soil, Daniel O’Connell. When we strove to blot out the stain of slavery and advance the rights of man, we found common cause with your (Irish) struggles against oppression. Frederick Douglass, an escaped slave and our great abolitionist, forged an unlikely friendship right here in Dublin with your great liberator, Daniel O’Connell. His time here, Frederick Douglass said, defined him not as a color but as a man. And it strengthened the non-violent campaign he would return home to wage"
When we accept that humans have vastly more in common than divides us, all the "isms" and "..ocracies" in the world forfeit their power over us.

Recent outbursts from Netanyahu demonstrate why Israel will remain a tribal reservation "for the foreseeable future" and can't be considered a nation-state.

When Obama is touting the TPP he uses a variation of the quip "the whole world is full of foreigners".
He says "...95% of the world's customers live outside our borders, and we can't close ourselves off from those opportunities..."
It would seem that 95% of our enemies also reside out there too. I wonder how many customers we've pissed off by now with our 'successful' military exploits? Counterterrorism my be counterproductive.

I don't claim to be a mind reader but what I took from Sander's "...damn email..." response was what I felt myself. The whole thing is a contrived distraction from the very real issues that face the US and the only lesson it teaches us is that Hillary is not tech savvy but can always bully her way to get what she wants, however daft or unworkable. Remember "Hillarycare"?
There are plenty more "Harry and Louise" types out there to thwart her again if she reaches the White House as POTUS.

It took almost 70 years to charge someone for the collective punishment massacre at Oradour-sur-Glane in France. However, driving a tank, albeit containing investigators, over the crime scene is not a good start to any investigation.

Americans should be allowed to vote in elections for the Knesset. Taxation without representation is what we fought to achieve and we should not lightly give it up.
Equally, the folks in the areas we use for bombing and droning excursions and quasi-occupation should have a vote in US elections; they are the ones most impacted by actions of Congress. Literally impacted!
