Given that Mr. Obama has just ditched our Czech and Polish allies, I don't trust him sufficiently to want the Patriot Act extended.

Carter may be speaking for himself. He should be eternally grateful for President Obama, without whom Mr. Carter would remain in history as the worst president on record. Then, again, maybe he is and is trying to contribute in an effort to assure that standing.
