Both the distance and direction is calculated by using the coordinate of Mecca, the Ka'bah to be precise. It is just not shown. It is part of the calculation. And if you zoom out the map, you can see that the line connects your city with Ka'bah.

The straight path to Mecca is the same as the shortest distance. The curvilinear line is because it follows the curvature of the earth. The earth is like a ball. What you think as a flat surface is actually part of a big curvature of the earth. Similarly what you may think as a straight line is actually a curved line following the surface of the earth.

You should also see a line drawn on the map. It indicates the direction to Ka'bah. You can then use the line to orient yourself using the map as a guide.

Lebih baik lihat gambar di petanya saja. Tinggal dibandingkan dengan gambar yang terlihat di peta: misal serong ke kanan sekian derajat dari arah jalan di depan rumah. Atau ada gedung yang bisa dilihat dalam peta, bisa dipakai sebagai acuan dengan membandingkan dengan garis arah kiblat.
