The Establishment Clause of the First Amendment CLEARLY prohibits the establishment of a national religion by the Congress, or the preference of one religion over another; non-religion over religion, or religion over non-religion.

That said, I am a legally ordained minister of the Universal Life Church Monastery in Seattle. I have joined the ranks of such philanthropists and activists as John Lennon and Richard Branston (both of whom are ordained: www.ulcministers.com). I see it as both an expression of my religious beliefs and a cause to bring peace and equality into people's minds.

Currently the ULC Monastery in Seattle is seeking to challenge the constitutionality, both Federal and State; of allowing Congress to restrict or restrain ministers from their ministerial duties, be it a funeral for a gay couple or a marriage. For their full proclamation which, coincidentally is from 2007, visit:

The fight to secure constitutional rights for gays does not belong within the 14th Amendment, rather it is a First Amendment issue. You may reach our churches administrative office by emailing webmaster@themonastery.org or by visiting www.TheMonastery.org
