If your parents had decided that you could not defy something as immediate as your own body, they would never have bothered to toilet train you, and you would still be filling your pants. But you have learned to train your body.

Yes, those who want to do as they please must first convince themselves that the Torah was written by humans. Then they have to convince themselves that whoever believes the Torah was written by G*d is equally self-indulgent, and is merely indulging his or her own heartless bigotry.

Yeah, the Romans and the Greeks told us the same thing several thousand years ago. If we had listened to them then, everyone today would still be pagan. Later the Christians came along and told us we just didn't get it, and that with the coming of their religion, we were sadly out of step with the times, and needed to evolve to catch up. Then Mahmoud told us the same thing, and still later, so did Marx and Lennon. Fortunately, a lot us didn't listen to any of them, either.

Funny, I found Rabbi Shafran's observations infinitely less bigoted and more dignified and respectful than those of many of the knee jerk reactions from commenters who claim to be tolerant and open minded. Like too many who call themselves open-minded, they can tolerate anything except Jews who believe in Torah.

Has never had to struggle with his heterosexuality? Perhaps not, but most heterosexual males at one time or another struggle with how and when to exercise their heterosexuality. As Rabbi Shafran recognizes, all of us have trials to face, and just because someone may have different trials does not give us license to condemn them for having them.

"Homosexuality serves no purpose. Then why does it exist?"
Perhaps to struggle against. The Sages tell us that "The rebellious son never existed and never will. Why is it written in the Torah? To learn from it and earn reward."

So any criticism of radical Islamic movements like Boko Haram, or pointing out how evil those movements are, demonizes patriotic American Muslims?

Tell me, did you protest when people criticized Meir Kahane HY"d, or the JDL? Do you think it's wrong to say that Baruch Goldstein's actions, or the people who killed Mohammed Abu Khdeir, were evil? Because I don't think it's wrong to say so. If you don't either, I have to wonder why you are suggesting that it is wrong to admit that a dangerous and evil force is dangerous and evil, and why you are suggesting that doing so defames people who are not being called (and who should not be called) dangerous and evil.

And I hope they are not going to slaughter entire Jewish communities the way the Crusaders did en route to Eretz Yisrael.

Neither are stupid, false comments. See JW's reply for details.

Yes, CAIR does a lot of that. Not too many Orthodox Jews are going to be firing a BB gun, or breaking a window, on a holy day. None, to be more exact.

Google - people who hate Jews for being.
