I am 100% on board with you re. Wordpress - I have also tried plenty of different 'solutions' and self-hosted Wordpress (not the .com version) I am totally passionate about. SO many ways to customize and make these sites your own and once they're up and running (fairly painless as you say), they are not far off from operating a Word .doc - which is what makes them so super accessible I think.
