I might be inclined to take your deal. You guys (y'all here in Texas) take Perry and we'll take Rendell. At least he can't be perpetually re-elected by calling himself a conservative. He'd be out in the next election - not to mention, powerless in Texas politics until then.

You're absolutely right. I meant to put "truly conservative" in quotations to show that she is portrayed to be a "true conservative." The mistake must've been due to the "0" score. I'm glad not everyone here has a problem with someone new taking part in the discussions. Unfortunately, I'm afraid Kinky Friedman is probably about as conservative as either of the Republican candidates. Oh, and... Gig'em Ags!

Thanks for clearing those up. On #10, I agree that no company can be "too big to fail." It was our government though who declared these businesses to be so. While it may be painful in the short-term, I would much prefer letting companies fail if they cannot support themselves - regardless of how large they are. We've had many large companies fail in our history and there are always plenty of smaller, better managed companies waiting in the wings to take their place. I am very uneasy about government deciding which corporations are so large that they need to be broken up. I just don't trust the government enough to give them that kind of power over private enterprise. By the way, I'm with you all the way on the first six.

Problems with this list.

#7 - The federal government cannot force states to impose a state income tax; flat or otherwise. This increases the control of federal government rather than decreasing it. I do agree with eliminating the IRS, but there are better options on the table than this one.
#8 - Unfortunately our military is needed to protect our interests even if the budget is not balanced and debt not paid. We can't leave ourselves unprotected just because some idiots in government overspent.
#9 - No problem with most of this except limiting outsourcing. If we are going to limit a corporation's ability to outsource, we must first decrease or eliminate the taxes payed by corporations so that they can be competitive with foreign companies.
#10 - Seriously? Government taking control of corporations and deciding who is "too big?" That doesn't sound like freedom.
#11 - Not a bad idea in theory.
#12 - Amen.

Actually having Perry run for a third term is not that good for Texas. While I agree with his actions on this matter, for most of his time in office he has not been very conservative. He has proven himself to be a Republican in name only with actions such as toll roads, the Trans-Texas Corridor, Cigarette taxes, and on and on... He has built powerful alliances with his buddies in various industries and disregarded the people of Texas, serving only himself and his cohorts. He won the last election with only 39% of the vote. The 61% "anti-Perry" vote was split between three other candidates making him the winner with nowhere near a majority. Granted, he has sounded quite conservative lately, but this is only because he faces a popular, truly conservative opponent (Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison) in the next primary.
