Makes a lot of sense. I think there's also something to telling the same core story, but changing the angle (which is essentially the vehicle for telling that same story). That way you can, like you suggested, personalize the story a bit for the writer and publication.

Great, practical advice. Thanks for sharing.

One question I have is regarding this final point, "Many big organizations scour local news sources for good stories, so you might get some hits there too.". One thing I've found in the past when trying to generate press for my own startup is that after we got coverage in local papers, a couple bigger papers claimed that "the story was already done" and they didn't want to write a story that was already written. Have you found this at all? Do you think this was just their way of telling me nicely that they weren't interested in the story?

OK I'm giving it a try. My dock has gone from 18 items to 9!

Another really awkward part of airplane conversations is when the person next to you opens with a dumb comment like "wow the weather in [the city we're traveling to] is supposed to be rainy". And then you inevitably have sporadic, bad conversation throughout the flight.

The really awkward part though, is that you inevitable haven't introduced yourselves so you have to do an "outroduction" at the end - right after the plane touches down and right before you turn into mortal enemies, elbowing each other to get your bag and get off the plane - by awkwardly chuckling and saying "ha I realize we haven't even exchanged names! Well anyway, I'm Adam, it was nice to meet you. Never see you again!"

*elbow to the face!!*

whoa whoa whoa easy big fella. I'm still noodling on the whole "Java and Javascript aren't the same" concept.

I'm not a CTO and therefore didn't understand most of this post. But based on the comments, it seems like it was valuable. Good stuff KSO!
