SOunds like this fellow has studied Jubal Earley's "Lost Cause" fantasy that just because a rank and file union army claims to not be fighting to end slavery and rebel battle lines not to protect it, doesn't mean that that wasn't the CAUSE of the war regardless. Confederate President Alexander Stevens said it best:

"The new constitution has put at rest, forever, all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institution—African slavery as it exists amongst us; the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution. Jefferson in his forecast, had anticipated this, as the 'rock upon which the old Union would split.' He was right." - March 21, 1861.

So let me ask you point blank. Did Schaeffer misrepresent the poll results? Pretty simple question.

I guess the WALL STREET JOURNAL (that liberal rag) part of that escaped everyone? That's why I read Schaeffer's piece because of the very fact the the WSJ was involved in the poll...and I assume why he commented on it. I am assuming he is a businessman and thus gives the WSJ some modicum of credibility.

So did the crazed TPers here not see the WSJ part? Or did they prefer to close their eyes and cry "I'm not listening! I'm not listening!" Maybe, perhaps, the author is right and the Tea Party has some real hypocrisy in it. You honestly think people will take out of Social Security ONLY what they put in plus normal interest? The moment they go a dollar over, that extra $$ must come from the present generation and thus does an entitelment become de facto welfare.

Holy Crap! Are you people that dumb? The poll is a search, click, click away! For those of you who have opposable thumbs, here...the author's right.

I suppose for people who think that them coloreds shoulda know'd their place, I guess Lincoln is a burr in their saddle. Actually he was our greatest president, so you're off just a tad.

Do tell redneck boy. As one who wrote my thesis on the Maryland Campaign of 1862 and the Empancipation Proclamation that followed, I would LOVE your opinions which could have been shat right out of the gutter of a klan rally. Are you one of those who denies that that war was about slavery? Do you really want to do this? Be forewarned, I will ask you a LOT of questions...usually the ignorants in this debate tend to talk themselves into a corner under corss-examination backed by the historical record. So let's do this. You're move. Tell me what the war was REALLY about then Johnny Reb. This should be fun for me.

I know you probably can't stand this damned Emancipation document but it carried a little more weight than that OFT-QUOTED sans context statement of Lincoln's that people think negates what followed. And let me ask you, who cares what he thought. What matters is what he did. He had hoped to save the union without ripping it asunder over slavery, yes. But he came to see that it could never survive half-slave and half-free not jst for practical reasons but for moral reasons as well. That slavery was a birth-defect of the nation that could only be corrected through its complete erradication. YOu might want to read up on Lincoln besides Wiki. Just a thought. I did my dissertation on the Emacipation Proclamation and the Maryland Campaign of 1862 and its impact both on Lincoln and the nation as a whole. So yeah, I've read that quote that closeted racists like to toss so many many many times sans context out to make them feel that their own predjudices are justified.

"That on the first day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixty-three, all persons held as slaves within any State or designated part of a State, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the Executive Government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons, and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom."

Emancipation Proclamation January 1, 1863.

Stogy. 3/5 compromise of 1787. Missouri Compromise of 8120. California compromise of 1850. What did these all have in common.

Oh, and learn how to construct a proper sentence: "you are aware, I presume that George Washington, Thomas Jefferson (who wrote the Declaration of Independence) and most of the other Founding Fathers were slave owners, don't you?" end it with 'aren't you.' You reveal your hick redneck roots right there. Spit-TAAANNG!

The rest of your drivel I learned in the third grade..or as you would call it, 'grad school'. Make a point and we can talk.
