It's standard practice to arrest anyone in cases of murder apparently

I think we need to take a collective chill pill here and let that the police do their thing. If they have sufficient evidence to charge him then GA is in the right place, a police station.

I agree with Peter Robinson when he said that not to question GA would have been a bigger problem and I think GA knows that too so 5 weeks ago he contacted the PSNI saying that he was available to meet them. He would have known well in advance that being arrested is standard procedure in murder cases and would have packed his tooth brush. No doubt the PSNI will hold him for the maximum length of time possible if for no other reason than to get the usual suspects off their back.

If the only thing the PSNI have is the Boston Tapes then I am afraid they don't have a lot. Read this from the CPS:
https://www.cps.gov.uk/legal/a_to_c/confession_an...

GA is in an election cycle and knows full well that Jean McConville will be mentioned in every TV, radio and press interview that he does so he took the step of going through the preliminary judicial process and if he comes out the other side without charge he will be able to repeatedly say in interview “I was arrested, questioned, helped the police with their inquires and released without charge, next question”

If Martin McGuinness thinks there are still 'dark forces' then it's up the CC and the Policing Board - of which SF are members - to weed them out so that both communities keep their trust in our new police service. The old days are long gone, a repugnant distant memory, and they should not be allowed to return.

But let's chill out and see the lay of the land in 24 hours

GA notified the PSNI 5 weeks ago that he was available to meet them and the police chose the date/time/location.

But why the hell shouldn't they, the PSNI don't need to jump at GA's call.

The arrest is standard practice in cases of murder accordng to Evening Extra tonight
