This seems a bit odd as JFK or any of us can buy Cuban products in Canada because they have never embargoed any Cuban products. In fact it is a popular winter destination for Canadians. It is an amusing story like the one about Thatcher in the restuarant with her cabinet and she ordered "beef", when the waiter asked "what about the vegetables" she responded "they'll have the beef too". Amusing but probably not true.
I think we ah aul being too haard on Missth Waastherman Schssutlssz. Is she related to barbara walters?
dadinleftfield- saying people are scary is a way of avoiding talking about the issues they raise when one cannot, or will not, address those issues. Ad hominem attacks are used to shutter debate. If you do not like discussion, fine, do not engage in it. If the only contribution you can make is to declare people "scary", "nuts", or other attacks, you might want to consider your local grammar school playground as a venue for your epithets.
Dana, great job. The most disgusting thing about the Girl Scouts national leadership, however, is that they are still partnered with PP. Media Matters is bad, the lesbians are probably molesting, also very bad. PP is truely evil, they promote and provide abortion a.k.a. killing children. No one is picking on the scouts, it is the national leadership that people find disturbing. I am not a single issue voter; I do, on the other hand, recognize that values are hierarchical. If life is not at the top of the list, the rest will fade as well. lostinleftfielddad is missing the point. Should we have left the leaders of the Hitler Youth alone and not have bothered them with counter arguements? I think that is largely what happened and the results were not good. There are other organizations for young girls to join.

Fortunately for most of us, including Mr. King, we show far more sanity and common sense when living our lives than in our philosophizing about life. Yeah for us.
I remember reading a one sentence review of a Streep movie that said "Life is hard enough withhout Meryl Streep movies". I laughed for days.
The author's piece is nearly incoherent as well as syntactically and logically fallacious. The comments above are largely correct. Civil war will break out in Iraq adding to the hundreds of thousands of Iraqis that have already been killed or maimed. The war there had no justification. Not one soldier should have shed his blood there for the simple reason that what SH did was none of our business. Concerned about human rights are we? Why then have we not invaded China, the most cruel and deadly regime in the history of the world, with labor camps that put the Soviet Gulags to shame and make the genocides of Hitler and Stalin look like beach parties? Instead of invading China we grant them permanent MFN status so our businesses can take advantage of the slave labor from the camps and the virtual no pay to others in China- clue, they rival our military and can cause widespread devastation to us, unlike SH, so we leave them alone. Rubbish Cowardly rubbish.
Here are some repulsive facts according to both A.M.A.s(psychiatric & psychological): 1 out of 6 boys and 1 out of 4 girls are sexually abused before age 18. Some consider the figures low because of under-reporting. So who is doing all of this? For every abuse by a Catholic Priest(there should have been none) there are 100 abuses in the public schools of the country-that according to a government study done in 2005[which, incidently, found that abuse allegations against all clergy, protestant ministers, rabbis, priests etc.-were at 4% of members while abuse allegations against non-clergy were at 8%.]. The offenders, or accused offenders include teachers, coaches, guidance counselors, administration officials, ancillary staff, and other students. Outside the schools kids are abused by: step-parents, step-siblings, immediate and extended family members, trusted friends of families, police, doctors....well you get the picture. These figures seem high to me though we have, however, allowed our culture to slide into the gutter.
If China invaded Mexico and Canada we would probably change their permanent MFN status to eternal MFN status. We don't pick on nations that can actually fight back. No matter that China is the most brutal country (100 million dead, largest slave labor gulags in world history, killing their infants because of one child policy) ever, she can do real damage to us so we leave her alone. Among the reasons we use for so called regime change, brutallity to the citizenery is high on the list. China is the most murderous regime in history, but because she could possibly win a war against us we pretend that she is no threat.
T-man, did you live in Pierce hall at U of C or just a MF fan?
