I never suggested war was the solution to genocide. I never suggested war was the solution to anything. Changing children's understanding of race and other cultural/religious beliefs is the key.

But to suggest as you did that waiting "long enough the killing will stop" is far worse than starting the killing. A person that watches a crime being committed and does nothing and tells no one is worse than the person committing the crime. You should read a book called I Wish to Inform You that Tomorrow We Will be Killed with Our Families.

After you read that, come back to me and tell me that waiting is the best course of action in the case of genocide. There are other ways to stop genocide. Even the one happening in Sudan right now. A gun is never the solution.

I don't feel as if this is a commentary on America specifically but on acts of genocide all over. Sure there are some clear references to the destruction of the Native American community but I think there are also a lot of correlations to the acts of genocide in Albania, Rwanda and Sudan. These things are happening now. So hopefully kids see this and think, "That's terrible what they were trying to do to the Na'vi." And then they will grow up and not want to go to war for silly things like oil.

Great post. Over at www.WeHaveBeards.com, we've only been discussing the quality of the film. It's nice to talk about the subtext.
