Consider the comment of one player in UConn's incoming freshman class: "I never won the state championship in high school. I'm tired of losing, I want to win!" This, from a McDonald's High School All-American girls basketball player.
As far as I know, winning the NCAA women's basketball championship does not disqualify you from other pursuits in life. It all depends on your life vision, abilities and drive.
I think cabbie191 has wrapped up the main factors for a good decision rather well. Too bad overbearing parents sometimes pressure their kids into the wrong choice. After all, who's going to class and practicing five days a week, the parents?
