"Money borrowed must be repaid with interest; dollars printed reduce the value of dollars saved and public works projects initiated with the goal of stimulating the economy only succeed in diverting capital from one sector of the economy to another."
Boiling it down to bare basics like this makes the points very powerful somehow. Real world economics 101.
Best one yet, Crowder. You make an amazingly good Pelosi, so better get used to that skirt!
Loved the part where the Barry White was going. Hilarious! I also think Thorien has a good point, though. That was excellent comedy and yet thought provoking. It would be easier to win over and free the brainwashed minds of some of our misguided friends and relatives, even if it's just one issue at a time, if they weren't insulted with the lines about Dems. I get tired of sitting in the movies and hearing Republicans repeatedly insulted, so I know what a turn off that would be if I tried to share this clip with anyone.
Overall, though, it's good stuff.
Excellent interview, Andrew. Thanks for taking on this fight. I don't even remember now what we ever did without you!
Jealous? Please, the award committee has zero credibility. It's a political prize with recipients such as Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, and now Obama, and the last one was decided before O even had time in office to do anything. They should drop all pretense and just call it the Nobel Political Prize - lefties giving fellow lefties around the world awards for being lefties.
True, most of the audience did clap. You need to add Stephen Spielberg and Kate Capshaw to the list of those who didn't, however, and I've never felt quite the same about Stephen since that night. Richard Dreyfuss was another protester, although I don't know that you can see him in this clip. The award was announced in advance of the Oscars and that gave stars time to decide whether they were going to join in the silent protest or not; some of them went on record about it.
Okay, I'll sheepishly admit to watching Idol, but I leave voting to the tweens, teens and grandmothers. I have eclectic taste in music, so even though Kris and Adam had very different musical styles, they were each equally deserving of winning, in my opinion. Adam's going to be a huge star, there's just no doubt about it. He didn't need an American Idol win for that to happen, only the exposure the show gave him. The reason I think he didn't win, however, has nothing to do with homophobia. Danny Gokey's fan were more likely to prefer Kris Allen's style to Adam Lambert's. I'd say Kris won due to picking up the Gokey fans' votes. I would think coming in second would disprove any theories about homophobia. How could he have made it that far in the competition if that had seriously been an issue?
Eric Hoffer discusses that concept in True Believer, which is one of the most insightful books ever written. A certain personality is drawn to extremism, and whether such a person is supposedly on the left or the right is really just a superficial distinction.
I agree with you, John. These are political realities. Regarding gays, it's the right thing to do. I personally think civil unions for all would have been the better way to go, but it seems too late for that now.
