Hi Wayne, it sounds like your wife and son may have to apply for family visas to live in Australia. I'd recommend you contact the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship directly to ensure that you get the correct information.

Hi Kimmy, in my experience furnished rentals in Australia are a lot more common than in NZ. However, they're not like in the UK (where you can even get cutlery included!) and usually just have the basics - couch, whiteware etc. Try searching one of the sites in this article with the keyword 'furnished' e.g. http://bit.ly/lGJQAy

Hi Vee2006, It's certainly like that in the UK but moving to Australia is much easier. You can apply for your bank account before you leave (check out the Money page on this site for more info) and that way you'll have your bank account before you even start job hunting.

I think you do need to have an address in Australia before you can get your TFN number (like IRD) but we just got this sent to a family members house. Thankfully, you don't need this number to open a bank account.
