So many people posting quick remarks about his helmet use and death, but so few thinking about the man behind the road-closure fatality. While I hope everyone safely equips themselves to ride, I hope some of you take two seconds to think about the man. I didn't know this man but I went a step further and researched an old article on Brad in the Rocky Mountain News when, earlier this year, his wife Fran Hatfield died following complications of a stroke she'd had 5 years ago. They have four grown children (and 8 grand-kids) who are not only facing the first Christmas without their mother, they're facing a Christmas without their father. This is incredibly sad. Let's not belabor our points to the brink of insensitivity. - Send love and well wishes to this family.

We rode everywhere. Once she got on board with riding, she really enjoyed the freedom of it. She had such a big impact on my life. She made me a real man."
