I love Scotch-brite scrub pads - the green ones, but they can get non-scrubby pretty soon. This really does make one go further: i cut each large pad into small ones, about 1" by 2", just big enough for my "scrubbing fingers" to fit on and they get stored in a cute tin in my kitchen. Each of these gets used until it just won't work any more, then I get out another one. You're wearing out only a small piece at a time, rather than the whole pad -- it really does make them more economical!

When my baby girl was an actual, wee, not-quite-bald-but-fuzzy-headed baby (and not about to turn 20 TOMORROW), I had trouble getting her to sit up in her high chair. Her little bottom kept sliding forward in the seat and her chin would end up on the tray, eyes wide with "you gonna help me out here or what?"

So, you know those little round rubber-ish disks you get with advertising on them? They're supposed to open jars, but they just kind of lay there on the jar lid, staring back at you. Anyway, I took one of those and put it on the high chair seat under my little fuzzhead's bottom. That kept her bottom in place and her chin off the tray.

Unless she fell asleep in her food, which she did on occasion.
(Grandpa has pictures, which he recently showed her fiance. He waited for years to be able to do that.)

I used to give the kids straight peanut butter w/ apple slices - I don't think DangerBoy would have gone for the yogurt, but The Daughter might have.

We homeschool, but the kids did used to go to a private school where they had to take their own lunches. I would sometimes send apples & peanut butter this way: core & slice the apple, then stick it back together using peanut butter as the glue. It also kept the apple from turning all yucky brown. Send extra napkins, it's messy.

I love roasted green beans! Served hot out of the oven, they're great. But if they cool down a bit, don't fret!

The first time I had them was at a party - they were on an hors d'oeuvres table, served at room temperature. I kept going back for more!

I've also had leftover roasted green beans cold, straight out of the fridge, but usually we have no leftovers of these.

A friend served them on a buffet, cold, with a vinaigrette, which many folks liked but I didn't care for - I love the roasted veggie flavor, don't want to cover it up)

We introduced roasting veggies to my mother and father in law - they'd never heard of it, which is weird coz he watches Food Network all the time and I figured he would have seen it on there. Now they love roasting beans, broccoli, carrots, etc.

No, actually you haven't mentioned that I look lovely today. Good thing, too, because I'd know you were being sarcastic. Meh.

Fearless Friday: our dishwasher started puking water all over the floor a few days ago. It took me a while but I figured out what was wrong and how to fix it. All. By. Myself. No Help From Boys. :-)

The whole inside really needed cleaning out because I hadn't done it in a few years. Turned out the float switch was sticking and allowing too much water to come in because it wasn't shutting off. Works great now

Didn't post my fearless friday earlier because I was going to do it as a nice long blog post to link to, but yeah, life happened. So, there ya go.

Wow, Heather, I know you were feeling crappy this week, and yet you managed this with pictures, even. Impressive!

I've only had rutabaga raw, which I do like, if it's not too old. You still get that sweet-ish taste. But, I do know that, like with many veggies, the nutrients (especially the minerals) are more easily absorbed when it's at least lightly cooked and buttered. So, maybe I'll pick one up and try it soon. I wonder how roasted rutabaga would be?

Very helpful and informative, as usual. But, Heather....did you have to bring up dust mites breeding in my mattress? *shudder*

Acrylic paints are water based, (it's the only kind I use for my decorative painting) and I've had luck getting dried-hard-and-sat-a-while paint off hard surfaces with just soap and water. Use the hard plastic or nylon scraper, but if there's residue, try laying a soapy dish cloth or sponge over the area a while, then scrubbing gently with just the cloth or sponge. Rinse and repeat. Hot water helps. This should work on laminate or solid (like Corian) countertops just fine.

If you've got marble or granite, i have no idea!
