The best way to handle criticism is to take it in the right spirit. It is sad to see so many "reactions" instead of "actions". We have given Tossed Salad's opinion of their work. What is the problem in that? If you disagree with what we think, well good and fine, its just expression of thoughts. If you have problems with the way the site is being run, please contact us via email, this page is for commenting on the article, not on whether whether we know how to handle a website.

thank you anonymous :) the idea was to use the movies as an example for the characteristics of art movies, and hence no specifics of the plot were mentioned.
I'm happy you are able to connect to the artistic aspect, there is a fine line between world cinema in general and world cinema in that sense.
It is perfectly okay if you haven't seen the movies, they were not recommendations.

Yes, most definitely. The Aboriginal boy in Samson and Delilah, the entire time I saw the movie, I found his behavior so odd, but when I read up on petrol sniffing, it seemed so justified. There are always reasons.

I agree with you that cinema is an art and you make money out of it, but I feel the danger comes in when the script writer forms the story, and puts the dialogue with money in mind. Sex, hot girls, drama, action. These are often used just to get audience attention. I don't feel that is the way scriptwriters should work, moulding the story into what they feel people want. How would cinema evolve then?

I wrote on world cinema because I felt that it badly needed to be talked about. I have seen people's reactions to such films, and it quite sad.
Memento and Reqiem for a dream are accepted as art movies, but whether they are or not is hardly the point here, we must look at the bigger picture :)

Though I will agree with you that Berman's "The Silence" was probably not the best example for identity crisis- I should have put Persona there.

Saket, I never said I found the behavior of "Alex" absurdly funny. When I said absurdly funny, I meant something you would not relate to very easily, and might find shocking. Basically, it would make you ask, why would that person do such a thing?! I loved clockwork orange, funny did not mean odd. it meant different.

I was discussing about English and Hollywood films because I was talking about art-house cinema. It is easier to explain using examples people can relate to. Memento and Reqiem for a dream are not foreign language movies, but they are art movies. Like I said, it had an unofficial implication of art movies, and i said I was talking in the narrow sense.
Apart from that, I'm glad you wanted to watch more films.

Maybe he didn't, maybe it's what he wanted to paint. Painters are like that, you can not question a piece of art and ask why the painter drew that thing particularly and not anything else, its what appeals to someone.
