The same people who are out driving a car at 11pm. You fail to recognize that bicycles are a legitimate form of transportation, like legs and motorcycles, no matter the time of day or night. The fact that drivers kill and maim cyclists, pedestrians, and motorcyclists (day and night) is not a valid argument against alternatives to your "car-centric" world. The cyclist's family should contact a reputable attorney familiar with the rights and responsibilities of cyclists and drivers (for example, at www.bicyclelaw.com).

The family of the cyclist needs to contact an attorney familiar with the responsibilities of drivers with regards to cyclists. A particularly good resouce is Bob Mionski's website: http://www.bicyclelaw.com/.

This will be a boon also to those texting or cell drunk. With similar engineering "improvements" it will soon be possible to bounce and blunder your automobile across the entire state without ever paying attention to the road, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, or other drivers.

A victory for the rule of law! Does anyone doubt that the silent majority applauds when we are all held to the same standard? Are you critics really opposed to stop signs and speed limits? Do you think driving represents a "game" between scofflaw drivers and the (underfunded) police -- if you sneak it through, it didn't really happen? Municipalities that back down when faced by a vocal, law-breaking minority show how gutless they are. And public servants who admit they broke the law and just pay their fines should be commended (kudos to you Mr. Denton). It's time for all citizens to similarly grow into their adult responsibilities.

This driver's negligence caused a tragedy. Whether his driving was impaired by alcohol, drugs, cell phoning, or simply inattention, the cyclist deserved better. And so do all of the users of roads and highways who are daily at the mercy of impaired drivers. It is hard to understand why police have not cited this driver after 5 days. Her family should contact bicyclelaw.com or another personal injury attorney who understands bicycling and the responsibilities of drivers.
