I don't think it's just that men are taught to act so much as they're taught to not care. Boys don't cry, men should be strong, etc - to the point where empathy is a fault and sociopathy is celebrated. Men frequently shame each other for being too caring, as if caring is a sign of weakness. It's sad, really.
Do you suppose the book would be more compelling if these kind of narrators weren't played for laughs? 'Cause it's not funny in the first place (at least, not to me), so it might be refreshing to deconstruct the whole idea, to show how pathetic, and sad, and limiting, that kind of life really is.
(If it were me, I'd have the limited first person narrator, and then a second, omniscient third person perspective, but then, I'm not a proper writer. A proper writer could probably figure out how to work the objective version of events into the first person narrative without making it awkward.)

Also, it bothered me at the beginning how Cheese Sandwich pretty much took over Pinkie's party planning. Kind of a jerk move. But when it was revealed that he'd been inspired by Pinkie, I thought, well, y'know, when you meet the person who inspired you, you kinda want to show off your very best stuff. You want them to be impressed by you. And it backfired.
The Mane Six have been getting some flack for abandoning Pinkie, which, yeah, was wrong. But she was getting pretty intense right before Cheese showed up, taking the party-thing a little too seriously. You could see it on Dash's face, she looked worried and uncomfortable. Girls, you might want to speak up when Pinkie gets carried away, rather than just walking off. Pinkie doesn't understand "walking off".

Did you get the "to the queue!" reply? 'Cause I've had stuff not make it in because of a programming error. I bugged the staff about it and they figured out the problem and got it in.
Several of my pieces have been in Drawfriends, and then other pieces that I thought were just as good were ignored. So I can't speak as to the quality control, or the likelihood of art falling through the cracks. I'm willing to cut 'em some slack, though, as they are not paid to do this.
