And what about the line-up for the city-wide Board of Education seats. The four challengers are working hard-- presenting their views to the public and meeting the voters.

What about www.parentsnotpoliticians.com - the website for the challengers to the majority incumbents on the Norwalk Board of Education?

Thanks for the encouragement, Spectator. I have been walking as much of the City as I can on weekends, meeting people, sharing my concerns about the schools and encouraging all I meet that we can make a difference on November 3rd. Although my signs (and Artie Kassimis' signs) seem to disappear, I am taking that as a sign that we are making in-roads at unseating a firmly entrenched majority, so it's just encouraging me to work harder.
If I've earned your support, please tell your friends- and check out our campaign webiste: www.parentsnotpoliticians.com

Even if one were to give the benefit of the doubt to some tactical advantage the BOE seeks to gain by the suit (which I tend to doubt, because all it would do is amount to a slap on the wrist of the NFT), how can the Board of Ed justify paying their lawyer to write the press release and distribute the news to media outlets?
Plus, how can the Board of Ed claim that the suit promotes some public benefit?
I guess when they budget over $400,000 for outside legal services (rather than fund the 12 elementary school aides they cut), the Board of Ed feels they have enough money for a vanity lawsuit.

Thank you, Publis.

Perhaps it is a question of semantics, but there is a difference between a citizen engaging in those activities which are “political” (such as running for public office) and one being a “politician” (meaning one who might pursue an agenda geared to electoral success and not necessarily the best interests of those who are to be served).

In my opinion, and I don’t presume to speak for our entire slate, there is a need for the Board of Education to be more responsive—to engage the entire community in soliciting their opinions about the educational issues that affect us all. Some politicians may be less likely to respond to emails for fear of alienating potential voters or out of concern of sharing an opinion before it’s been vetted by party-regulars. Parents (and this particular unaffiliated voter-candidate), however, tend to be more open to encouraging the direct and honest discussions we need to improve our schools for all children.

Please don’t confuse a group of like-minded concerned citizens (who are all parents of Norwalk public school chidlren) who campaign as a team with a group of politicians wedded to a particular party agenda who move in near lock-step unanimity. Even though I'm an unaffiliated voter, I share a common vision with Artie Kassimis, Sue Haynie and Erin Halsey that among the keys to improving the Board of Education is to first improve communication with the public. I share a common belief that our schools need to be supported and that the process of preparing the education budget needs to be revamped. I also share a conviction with my friends and slate-mates that the diversity of experience and ideas we bring will promote an honest discussion of these issues and will benefit the kids, parents and taxpayers our schools should be serving.
