I am firing my senator... I received his legislative update, and my response follows below:

Last week, AIG announced the disbursement of $165 million in executive retention bonuses. In response, Senator Nelson cosigned a letter to AIG CEO Edward Liddy urging that the company renegotiate employee contracts to recoup the bonuses.
Senator Nelson also is an original cosponsor of the Compensation Fairness Act of 2009, S.651, a bill that will impose a 70 percent excise tax on bonuses paid by institutions receiving taxpayer assistance through the TARP program, including AIG. The excise tax is in addition to regular income tax and applies to all bonuses paid after January 1, 2009 that exceed $50,000. The legislation imposes restrictions on deferred compensation packages exceeding $1 million over a 12-month period. Small banks, large institutions receiving less than $100 million in taxpayer funds, and institutions that repay TARP funds will not be subject to the excise tax.
Michelle,
Please remove me from your list, and please do read the following very thoroughly & very carefully:
I will no longer support Mr. Nelson.
Mr. Nelson has repeatedly shown that he will forfeit his honor and integrity for the sake of "politics & power", and as a result, he has forfeit his position as my representative in the U.S. Senate. I am going to do everything within my power to "fire" he and his ilk at the next election cycle... and I will even spend my own time & money to ensure it. Please, do not misunderstand, this is NOT about party affiliation, this is about "TRUTH".
I called Mr. Nelson's Washington D.C. office on February 14, to ask if Mr. Nelson had read the 787 billion dollar stimulus bill, a bill that was scheduled for a vote less than 24 hours after it was made available to read... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/14/us/politics/14w...
...I was given this answer: "Senator Nelson has a staff of people who are reading the bill... "
As a matter of public record, he subsequently voted in favor of the bill.
As it turns out, Mr. Nelson's colleague, Senator Dodd, had the temerity to place a provision in the 787 billion dollar stimulus bill that ALLOWED the bonuses to be paid by AIG to its employees. It was IN THE 787 BILLION DOLLAR STIMULUS BILL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GoK0539Gl4
According to your legislative update, Mr. Nelson NOW is "Holding AIG accountable"??? This is, at the very least, feigned outrage and an illegitimate reaction, being perpetrated by a man who has degraded himself to a Lemming. As your update demonstrates, Mr. Nelson is now attempting to cover his own tracks as he subserviently follows the Democratic leadership cabal and their illicit conduct... This is, simply, an outrage.
Mr. Nelson is not protecting us, his constituents, but rather serving as a submissive pawn to a burgeoning aristocracy. Through his actions, he is as culpable as Mr. Dodd.
I ask you, where is Mr. Nelson's Honor?
If he had ONLY read the bill, or at the very least, held the Obama administration to account by forcing it to honor its own pledges, not the least of which is called the "Sunlight Before Signing" clause... ( It is STILL on Mr. Obama's website: http://www.barackobama.com/issues/ethics/ Has he not read this either? ) ...he would still have my vote of confidence. Instead, his actions are perfidious and full of sophistry.
WHERE IS YOUR HONOR, MR. NELSON?? STAND UP AND SHOW ME...
One last thing, Michele... I am sending a copy of this email to every single contact I have on my email list, and please be aware, it is very large. If Mr. Nelson is not going to stand up and protect his constituents, then his constituents, "we the people", will do it on our own... without him. I refuse to be lied to by my Senator... I refuse to be treated like a serf by someone who I helped to elect. I refuse to support someone who does not represent my values nor protects my interests here at home.
Do you remember The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution of the United States, & The Bill of Rights?
...I do... Sic Semper Tyrannis, Mr. Nelson.
To any one on my email list who is receiving this, please feel free to pass it on to anyone you see fit to... I, for one, will no longer remain silent about the abhorrent misconduct of our elected officials.

Please remove me from your list, and please read the following very thoroughly & carefully:
I will no longer support Mr. Nelson.
Mr. Nelson has repeatedly shown that he will forfeit his honor and integrity for the sake of "politics & power", and as a result, he has forfeit his position as my representative in the U.S. Senate. I am going to do everything within my power to "fire" him and his colleagues at the next election cycle... and I will even spend my own time & money to do it.
Nelson is now attempting to cover his own tracks as he subserviently follows the Democratic leadership and their illicit conduct...
