Nice if it would work that way. But a lot of people who are having a lot of children are unable to make intelligent choices. I think we just need to stop paying for their unintelligent ones.

How about those who can't afford to house, feed, cloth and educate them?

I would give you a hundred thumbs up if I could. So ridiculous that we think we need to manage a few moose, but can't even find a solution for our own rampant population growth. So much more damaging than anything else. What are you thinking folks?

A stupid elk? He was a beautiful animal who deserved to live. What are you? One of 7.5 billion people on this planet, who eat, poop, breed just like any other animal. What is so special about that?

This is unbelievable! These are young bears trying to find some food, trying to orient themselves in the world. And we kill them for winding up in some neighborhood? Who are these losers who call to report a bear sighting in their yard anyway? Must be people who need anything to make them feel important. I am so disgusted with the human race....

Charlie - I appreciate the polite discourse.

If I understand your point of view correctly you are saying that the same people who show outrage over the killing of the elk should be equally or more outraged about abortion. Because there is outrage over the latter already - for example by you. And I am saying that we all have, and are entitled to different passions and causes. I don't feel the same way you do about abortion. To me zygote or a young fetus is much less important to me in this overcrowded world than a wild animal that need nothing from us, except to be left alone. I do not see the same absolute dividing line between all human life and all animal life that you do.

I also hope for a world in which all life is considered sacred, but as long as we consider ourselves as superior as we do and put no value on other animal species, peace can never occur. Abortion is a much less important issue to me than stopping the destruction of our environment by humans and the blatant disrespect for all other life, In addition, with abortion there is the issue that we just cannot make decisions over other people's bodies and that will never go away.

Why is it that whenever people defend the right of animals, who don't have a voice and suffer great injustice at the hands of humans all over the planet, that some people feel those efforts should be focused only on humans? You are free to do all you want for any cause, including abortion, but please don't judge where I put my efforts.

You say that the elk was just an animal - what is that supposed to mean? We are only animals, too. What makes unborn humans morally superior to animals that are already roaming the earth? Please explain.

Sounds like a reasonable argument to me. What are you so annoyed by - the mere mention that maybe it is time to stop breeding?

Mark - thanks for your letter. I feel exactly the same way you do. What a world we live in when so many members of our own much overrated and over-bred species cannot see the sadness in that. Somebody please explain to me what makes us so special, what makes human life so sacred when all other life seems to be so disposable to you.

I agree with you when it comes to the school lunch program. But if it also involves housing, medicaid and other entitlements, I think we ought to check more carefully who is getting the money. I find it annoying that I am working my butt off and am taxed heavily to pay for the the moms on food stamps and medicaid who get to hang out at whole foods or outside all summer.
