Too funny. Because it's a plausible option.

......The only thing missing is the "yellowsnow guy" Rick rolling everyone again. It'll be ready when it is. They've never held out before and they won't start now. If desperation forces you to try a paid unlocking site. Then I guess there really is one born every minute.

Just to share some good news. Paypal has decided my case in my favor ( Full refund plus shipping.) Those of you with iPhones stuck on the ss# and zip screen have hope to get your money back. Do NOT hold these phones hoping for some hactivation solution (No one is really working on one.) You only have 45 days to start a dispute. You CAN get your money back. I did.

Another group (ChronicDev) that does this (jailbreaks/interesting exploits/performance enhancements/etc) purely for the joy/challenge.

Seriously?? A tethered jailbreak that uses Geohots exploit? Unable to be corrected by Apple without a hardware change? Possibly a permanent jailbreak? Funny...I don't see the nightmare here anywhere.

Thanks. People need to understand. There are two types of iPhone 4 sellers on eBay. 1) the guy gets the phone, activates it via iTunes, then cancels the account. He probably pays 550-600 total for this. Sells it on eBay for 800+ and makes a little money. I have no problem with these guys. 2) the guy gets the phone. Opens it. Pulls the sim. Cancels the account. Then sells it on eBay. He pays 299 for his phone. Bypasses the ETF of 300+ and sells it for the same 800+. He makes 500 plus and is selling a brick. These guys need to be exposed for the thieves they are.

Agreed. It kinda has been my one trick pony/ issue. I am ever hopeful that my posts help prevent people from being ripped off by these people.

No. A cancelled account locks the phone to the old #. Even WITH the ss# and zip you will still not be able to activate the phone. There is a pending ETF balance against the old account. I personally have had this happen. The phone is for all intents and purposes bricked. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Doesn't work. Already tried that. Imei is locked to previous # in iTunes. There is NO way for a third party to activate. The original purchaser has to reactivate his account. Then activate the phone. Then cancel the account. As far as AT&T is concerned the bearer of this phone still owes 300+ dollars for the ETF. The op has no recourse at this time.
