speaking of TOOTH and nail i'm off to the dentist this a.m. to get a crown, so I have to be QUICK... ;-) aaaarrrgghhh. anyway, I have a daughter in 8th grade. I live in a very conservative district in Georgia - actually Newt's old district. Her elementary and middle school are both charter schools, and the high school she will attend is rated one of the tops in Georgia. We had civics in 8th grade - she gets her 'civics' now in Social Studies, which we also had, but her civics is now combined within social studies. So I have a thing where every day, for the last 6 years - after school I ask her to tell me four things she learned in school today, and make one of them false, and I have to 'guess' which one is false. That way I can keep her thinking about what she learned, and I don't have to just ask the simple "how was school today" question, to whcih she would otherwise answer a simple "gooood".... so we make a game out of it. It's actually fun, and she has through the years gotten more savvy about what things she remembers to say. She's stumped me a few times too. So anyway this year I have focused it more on 'civics', and try to teach her more about politics and the government - especially in these times. I have asked her to tell me if any of her teachers give her any of the 'indoctrination' crap, so to speak, and she tells me that with all her teachers, any time someone mentions Oblahma, her teachers either stay very neutral without saying anything one way or another (ie no indoctrination) or they tend to lightly roll their eyes. So anyway, I/she am luckier than many kids in this country. Nonetheless, I am trying to think through this idea of a 'fun' civics type kids school. Of course I will, like you say, face obstacles from the left for 'indoctrinating' kids for teaching them the constitution... :-)

I watched a movie a few nights ago on TV, one which I do not remember even playing in 1981 but won all sorts of awards (go figure when you hear of it), called "Reds". Starred, written, produced and directed by Warren Beatty. It was very interesting; a bio/drama of a guy named John Reed during the mid-1910's Bolshevik Revolution and his promotion of the Progressive movement in America. It just happened to be on; It was a good movie, albeit a grueling 3 hours. It was interesting how it paralleled today's times. Go to imdb.com for more information on it. But again, it was not rocket science as to how the movie would have won 21 nominations and 3 awards - freakin lefty movie business... I highly encourage a viewing though, just to see how this crap is digested then and now.

Hanzo, my only problem with term limits is the lame-duck term. Seems they could go hog ( or even pork) wild with no fear of retribution... ideas on this?

Also, you might want to look a few thread above this for an idea I've been kicking around as to a re-education on the Constitution...

I have been considering an experiment in the free market. I agree, where it is evident that schools do not teach much in the way of the Constitution and the Founding; and with the rise of interest in the lack of this education combined with the rise of interest in taking back our government, creating a summer, or after school program for an intense and specific introduction to the founding principles and the Constitution geared for elementary and middle school students. So, how to make it exciting for school children would be the question - probably wrapped up in hiring the right type individuals to teach it and limiting the class to a week - 2 hours a day maybe. The marketing would be by direction toward the parents, couched as a fun program that the parent would have to 'require' of their children, with a cool reward to the child for taking the class. I dunno - just been kicking around the idea... But it is something - somehow, someway - that we have to do to get kids re-educated.

UPDATE (since I couldn't edit my original post due to a reply...)

Hereafter the trolls shall always to be referred to, in the BG Kingdom, as....

The Black Knights

Also known formally as the "Honorary and Most Esteemed Members of the Black Knight Screaming Poo Flinger Society"
(Much thanks to Cardinal Fang and Hanzo)

Alas! In keeping with Sheriff Bart's Radical Rules For Conservatives, rule number 7:

7) Mock the trolls. Never engage them in logical debate, for they know not what they know not. In fact (since there will be none of those from their side) have a little fun with them! Most of the time they'll never know the difference! Invite them to return and post more of their thoughts, but never in a serious nor degrading manner. NEVER tell them to go away, and never wish ill will toward them. Invite them out for a clam dinner. In the same breath remind them that they validate us and make us stronger.

Dhass? Mika? Fonzie? Ye of The Esteemed Black Knights!

I'm absolutely lovin' it!

Again, as in keeping with Rule #7 from Sheriff Bart's Radical Rules for Conservatives:

7) Mock the trolls. Never engage them in logical debate, for they know not what they know not. In fact (since there will be none of those from their side) have a little fun with them! Most of the time they'll never know the difference! Invite them to return and post more of their thoughts, but never in a serious nor degrading manner. NEVER tell them to go away, and never wish ill will toward them. Invite them out for a clam dinner. In the same breath remind them that they validate us and make us stronger.

Spread the Word! I got in early on the Muddle Comics post... I'll edit it now to reflect the new full group name. That's great!
