There is a company based in new mexico that has filters in line with commercial natural gas pipelines already. The helium is produced as a byproduct not as the primary goal. It's cheaply gotten and makes a better end product for the natural gas user. I see a win, win. If we just increased the scale of the project to include all the world's major pipelines I bet we could have as much helium as we need if not as much as we want.

They can and do filter helium out of natural gas. It is nowhere as scarce as some would have you believe.
