Many get them down the line from a legal purchase from a less than up and up arms dealer. Google straw man purchasing hand guns, it's amazing that some gun dealers aren't honest (sarcasmatron on)

As I said before straw guns sales are a MAJOR problem in the US ! IT takes a hell of alot to get an arms dealer license revoked AND then it can be avoided even further ! Further more some legal arms dealers are not so trustworthy either, they purchase a couple dozen handguns, they are shipped to them and then they claim they are stolen which they are not. They sell them on the blackmarket for much higher prices and the cycle continue. Front line had a good piece on this very thing, the atf finally caught ONE dealer in tennesse doing this very thing AFTER he lost his license to sell but had a relative get a license. These problems are far greater than the eric holders fiasco involving ONE dealer in arizona, and by the way, that program was started in 2006, eric holder wasn't AG then. But back to the subject, I'm not advocating outlawing guns, there just needs to be stricter laws on legal arms dealers, that would at least get maybe 40 to 50 % of illegal hand guns off the streets !
