You and a significant number of police have a SERIOUS failure of understanding about the use of violence by police. Police are NOT authorized to inflict punishment upon suspects as if suspects have been found guilty of any accusations against them. It is NOT the job of the police to judge or to punish suspects. Your attitude is, frankly, condones illegal behavior and is in violation of the guidelines for commenting here.

Mr. Starr's draft bill specifically targeted American Pit Bull Terriers. Let's see if you can correctly identify which dog is the American Pit Bull Terrier. http://www.pitbullsontheweb.com. After .com add /petbull/findpit.html
After visiting this page I think we will all find that darned few of us could even identify a pit bull if we had to. And don't forget that the pit bull is a mix of a terrier and the olde English Bulldog, which is also shown on this page and which doesn't look anything like any of us thought this dog did.

This is a WHOLE different kettle of fish. I followed Bill Cannon's advice and did an image search for the terms listed in the draft bill. The variety of dogs that this bill would cover goes WAY beyond what most people think of as a Pit Bull (namely, a dog with tiny eyes that is baring its teeth at you and would like to rip your face off in an instant). Unfounded fear of one's own imagination is not a good reason to do anything.

In the first place, a lot of you, including the person who wrote this 'draft bill', mistakenly think that Staffordshire Terriers are Pit Bulls. Well, they are NOT. http://www.breederweb.com/dogs/breeds/134-staffor...
This draft and the comments that some have left here are misguided, irrational, ignorant expressions that would cause a tremendous deal of harm, depriving us of a companionship with Terriers that goes back thousands of years.
There are many things that a person can do here in Oregon, or anywhere, that will make life better for all of us, but killing and banning all of the Staffordshire Terriers is absolutely not one such thing. Laws written and supported by fearful, ignorant people are bad laws. We don't need laws that protect us from such American Terriers as this one http://dogs.about.com/od/fordoglovers/ss/goliath_... but, rather, we need protection from people who would kill such dogs and punish those of us who own and care for them.
This is a shameful attempt at Oregon Legislation.
