You sound like Mitt Romney when you wonder why our entertainment exports shouldn't be promoting the finer points of American exceptionalism. Try selling patriotic pride to a mom in Iraq whose entire family was killed due to our presence overseas or one of our "shock and awe" tactics. Try selling it to a family back home whose mom had enlisted in the military back when Bush was a non-interventionist but still wound up dead. If no one ever perceived what some call American exceptionalism as American imperialism, if wars weren't hatched by neoconservatives who looked at the mysterious WMDs as convenient excuses to set up an American presence and kill for national security's sake, then maybe the foreign box office would be something to experiment on. As it is, most of the biggest movies make more money overseas than here.

America doesn't have the checkered past of some other countries, but when some of our biggest mistakes and most costliest strategic failures are in the present, I wouldn't blame any person for stripping Captain America's story down to good vs. evil rather than America vs. Nazi, especially with such a thug in the White House as we have now, harassing, shaking down and bribing his way to bigger government. The line between what was good about America once and what it has now become is furthered blurred by someone so extreme in the White House.

Oh, and Joe Johnston's post-Rocketeer work has left something to be desired. That movie had real danger, real evil, real death. Jurassic Park 3 was sanitized fun. I agree with the comic writer who said Johnston has promoted great American themes. "Hidalgo"? "October Sky"?

I said very plainly that I don't care that she created a new word. I only mention it so people know those were actually her words and not a mistake by me transcribing them.

The problem is, when she's criticizing "Family Guy", when she's pretending she doesn't believe Letterman, when she's whining about the media's coverage of her family, these and her tweets are moments when she is making a decision to be heard, to be a voice. She's using that voice to say dumb things or empty platitudes. It's not that people like me analyze every LITTLE thing she says, we're analyzing her just like we would any other political figure.

I have helped back pro-life candidates since I was a kid, true conservatives, many Republicans, but she has only gotten as far (TLC? Fox News?) as she has because of her looks. She's part of the new wave of neo-conservatives who alienate so many people by supporting the national security ideology of Bush.

How savvy was the Katie Couric interview? Who strong was she in the debate when she wouldn't answer elementary questions?

What boggles the mind is there is a vast wealth of conservatives and Republicans who, like me who isn't entirely either of those, are embarrassed that George Bush was our president. We are embarrassed that he hired people like Karl Rove, Condoleezza Rice, and Donald Rumsfield who were all either woefully unprepared, morally unscrupulous or both. No, none of us voted for Barack Obama but if Palin is the Republican candidate, Obama will be re-elected, and the Tea Party caucus and Republican Party will only have themselves to blame.

I don't want to be her, I don't hate her, it doesn't suck to be me, but I certainly fear her.

I didn't think it was great, but I wasn't bored for even a moment. I wasn't a big fan of the Dark Knight because of the music, which was so melodramatic. For this film, it sets the creepy table, though not perfect. SPOILERS BELOW As for Cobb's wife's dreamscape, who doesn't want to live in the right reality? Wasn't that the point of the Matrix? Even though life in the Matrix was preferable, it wasn't real and that's why the heroes wanted out. Cobb explained that during her time in the subconscious, it was so convincing it became her reality. How many of us have had dreams that while we were in them, we desperately wanted them to be real? She simply was in a place so deep that once she "forgot" her past life, she didn't want to come back because that wasn't real to her. If you notice, in dreams, we often almost immediately accept something that is definitely not real as being real.

I don't think the movie was great, but it was at least three times better than The Dark Knight. I hope Tron Legacy is the fun ride you and I are looking for. I wonder if maybe the print you got was playing too fast. That has happened at theaters with me before and, as someone involved in the arts, I can tell when the gaps between the dialogue are too short. People say I'm nuts for saying that but it has happened a few times and takes away from the film.

As a Christian, I thought we could glean two things from it: 1. you wouldn't want to be trapped in Hell. 2. Cobb, apparently, makes a choice to face reality and overcome his guilt.

The title essentially reads "have one opinion or another on Sarah, my opinion is fact"

How exactly does she own the news cycle? When she pretends to not believe Letterman's explanation, when she finds something in a cartoon that she doesn't like, when she has a cool spot in Alaska to show us, when she's letting Todd use her office unethically, when she's claiming marijuana users shouldn't be targeted by police but gives no plan of action to help them, when she's writing on her hand, turning down debate prep, skipping debate questions, she is being owned by the news cycle.

I've seen her speak many times and she reveals a lack of understanding or true plan of action so I think she should raise her kids, do her shows and continue making America laugh but, as long as she's the RNC chair and not a Presidential candidate, she at least won't be running for president.

So they shouldn't answer questions honestly in interviews? I can't stand Ellen Page but I still cannot wait to see this movie. How ignorant is it to say Dick Cheney is spreading fear when his last few appearances on TV have included grave warnings and predicting terrorist attacks on this country?

15 years ago @ Big Hollywood - WATCH: 'Inception' Sta... · 0 replies · -4 points

Ellen is no political expert, but when I say Sarah lacks compassion, I'm talking about endorsing invading other countries and their poor getting killed or believing it's not a big deal to smoke a joint in your house, but never championing the causes of non-violent "three strikes" convicts or the terminally ill who are legally smoking but still getting locked up. Lip service, whether it's from a beauty queen or a pit bull's lips, is not the same as action.

Also, it's unfortunate that her whacked out, un-Biblical religious background has made her believe she was called to make a nationwide influence because she was woefully unprepared for all the interviews and criticism. While she's been campaigning and working for Fox News and Discovery, I doubt she is filling her role as mother for young Trig.

I don't know how I could trust Sarah Palin to run my country when I wouldn't even trust her to do my taxes.

Bring on the down "thumbs" (and, no, Sarah, I wasn't making fun of Trig).

John Nolte, I bet you will still see this movie. Did Leo know the weather was like that and that it could block paths if he continued on his trip?

To the people who claim they are going to see The Sorcerer's Apprentice instead: is there a difference between an outspoken liberal and a silent one? They are both getting your money. One of the writers, Mark Rosenthal, wrote "Superman IV: The Quest For Peace" and "Mona Lisa Smile".

Out of principle, I'd be afraid to give money to a Jerry Bruckheimer or Jon Turtletaub movie. Turtletaub's career started out well, with Cool Runnings but I definitely wanted my money back when I saw The Kid (the only other one of his films I paid for (the others were just on at places I was at). Phenomenon also had a mix of positive and dangerous messages about life. I found National Treasure to be a hokey waste of time. I won't even get started on Jerry Bruckheimer.

Nicholas Cage appeared in "Lord of War", which I haven't seen but there is a quote in the movie that insinuated the 2000 presidential election was rigged. Jay Baruchel did a photo shoot for Vanity Fair.

Are you Christians? If so, how do you defend Sarah Palin's Wasilla Assembly of God, the exorcisms they supported and the Seven Mountains theology?

Money is going to go to liberals when you go see a movie, if you want more remakes and 3-D, go see The Sorcerer's Apprentice, a spin-off of Fantasia. If you want original, discussion-starting movies, go see Inception.

I wouldn't take issue with Leo's response because it is his honest answer and seemed to be less about piling on BP and more about continuing to keep people thinking about the issue. As for Ellen, I've never liked her and while there are dozens of things you could criticize Sarah Palin for, she is too non-specific in her answer, making herself seem stupid. The Cheney criticism is a little more specific, referencing his "fear". Contextually, his last couple of appearances since he left office have been predictions of terrorist attacks.
