25 fine is not going to make a difference. When you have no standards and these infractions are not a primary offense the police are not going to enforce the law when your state has not established a safety chain rating. So a person can tow a homemade trailer with no product liability and use unrated dog chain and no hitch pin and that trailer is coming off

What is also needed is to see the trailer. If it was a double axle trailer than it is also in Violation of Federal Safety Laws. Get a picture of the trailer

Wake up. No National Safety Standards for these crappy trailers! Go to dangeroustrailersDOT org and wake up

This person was towing a defective horse trailer. No safety chains. No hitch pin. No hitch clip. Was the horse trailer homemade? How much is this accident going to cost the taxpayers ? Amtrack is self insured and this accident is going to cost over 1,000,000 in repairs and additional loss of a locomotive !!!

Please...Oregon is the Stolen trailer capital of the west coast....go to www.dangeroustrailers.org and take note when I steal your trailer that is under 1,800 pounds how do you find it? Yes......in 15 states you can drive a trailer and not have ANY identification on it!!!!!!

It is like a terrorist shooting a missle at your car on the highway.

An unregistered, unispected and homemade trailer is terror on the highway.

Virginia will help you register a stolen trailer....all you have to do is

* slap on a farm tag
* or register it as a homemade trailer
* or get a registration from Maine and make up your own vin number......

One popular scam is to buy a manufactured trailer, insure it, then remove the VIN and report it as stolen. Re-branding it as a homemade trailer with a new license plate can be as simple as filing bogus paperwork with another state.

Melancon did this recently to prove his point. He applied from Virginia for a Maine trailer license with a fabricated VIN (ST467OL499EN17I99AM). For a $50 fee, he received his license plate in the mail with official documentation. Apparently no one noticed the message hidden in the VIN if you remove the numbers: STOLEN I AM.

The Governor of South Carolina does not care that your trailer is getting stolen and does not care that two parents were killed in her state and NOBODY KNOWS WHO KILLED THEM...BECAUSE OF NO REGISTRATIONS FOR TRAILERS!!!!!
