Thanks for that. Am I right in thinking that your suggestion is to restore as normal through I tunes WITHOUT holding down the shift key, Then in order to jailbreak use blackrain. My phone model no is87925ck03ns and was purchased last July. Does that mean that blackrain works normally for the jailbreak and running the battery flat wont cause problems. I tend to switch the phone off every night to save battery and don’t want to be messing around each day cos of the jailbreak.

Further questions
However I have files on Sauriks server and have amended the host file as he suggested and am not sure if that will make a difference.
Finally if I restore through I tunes and upgrade the BB I obvioulsy cant downgrade in the future, although am I likely to want to.Also I understand that blackrain is a tethered jailbreak, which I believe means it has to be reinstalled if the phone is turned off or battery goes flat. Is that right. But once I have used it perhaps for example to install "Terminal" does it need to be on the phone to use "Terminal" or can I just reinstall BlackRa1n only if and when I want to add a program{Does all that make sense!!!!!}

The scenario I have is this. Please bare with me. My last restore was through your custom FW created as activated for other carriers as I didnt have an official contract. Then unlocked with ultrasn0w. Everything has worked fine. I sihave since registered a pay and go sim card and I have now received an official unlock notification.
However going into I tunes does not activate it, so I tried uninstalling Ultra. Once I do that no sim card registers on the i phone , even the original one, and I am not receiving the official unlock notification. I am thinking perhaps I need to restore to your custom firmware not activated for other carriers and restore from that. Then would my official sim card be recognised.

I assume a clean restore is different from a restore from backup. Would the latter restore my phone to exactly the same as the backup state. For example would it restore the programs downloaded via Cydia.

Ihave a jailbroken phone which has been unlocked using ultrasn0w. My 3gs now appears to be getting an official unlock and I am wondering whether I need to uninstall ultrasn0w first. I want to retain the jailbreak so dont want to restore or update via i tunes as I am on version 3.1.2 and firmware 04.26.08 and want to stay with both for the time being. My query is if i need to uninstall ultrasn0w to get the official unlock when I sync with I tunes or not. If so how do i uninstall it. Cheers guys.

Advice please. Am running a 3gs jailbraked and unlocked with ultrasn0w. Version 3.1.2 modem 4.26.08. Works with Orange and tethering available and I Tunes version 9.0.1.8. No problems touch wood and I used your files to restore for the second time yesterday as I had a problem and the new sn0w cured the carrier display problem. I also have shsh on file at Cydia and have amended the code as suggested by dev team, so all is fine. What I need to know is if I can upgrade to the latest I tunes. I know it might be all ok at present but if I have to do another restore is it reliant on being the old I tunes version or not. Thanks.

Just a big thank you to all posters and Dev Team and any others I may have missed. With all your help/advice and posts, have now succesfully upgraded through windows vista to v3.1.2, and succesfully jail braked and unlocked. Only issue was carrier not being displayed which was resolved with "Make it Mine" from Cydia. Thanks to all./
