You can see my reply to the first post on the thread from Cornelius. I stopped watching and paying years ago.
The latest reminder I got now includes mobile phones and watching LIVE streaming via computers, under the equipment used that requires a license. They have bypassed the need to require a TV card in the computer as a way of justifying the fee, so by adding live streaming to their websites, Is just their sneaky way to "catch all" in their grubby little net. Actually watching LIVE broadcasts appears to still be the main criteria for the fee. I'm sure they will be able to track (via the ISP address) anyone downloading the stream, so do beware !!
What's betting licenses for all computers and mobile phones will be next on the agenda

My mum is 87 now and gets a free license, although several strokes has left her with a tendency to nod off every 30 seconds, which makes having it on rather pointless, but at least her full time carer (my brother) gets the benefit, even though he rarely watches it.
It's one back at the establishment for every Abu, Ali and Mohammed scrounger that washes up on our shores they give it to free !!

There's a smug satisfaction in knowing my mum is one of the few who through her dogged determination is hanging in there despite TVLA and the NHS grinding ginger that she has the gall to not do the decent thing (in their eyes) and shuffle off her mortal coils !!

Me too, I can't believe how stupid I was to keep watching and paying !! I tended to watch documentaries, comedy and the occasional film, but I have friends, who I consider intelligent educated people, who leave me dumbfounded by their total addiction to what I believe the biggest load of crap ever given airtime ... Eastenders, Coronation Street and any other mind numbing soap. What is frightening is they will not answer their phones while this rubbish is on or will terminate a conversation before they start.. Unbelievable !!

Senior citizens are exempt BUT unlike what they try to portray, that is, "pensioners" are exempt, that isn't strictly true, I believe the free license isn't given until the age of 70 (or 75)

quite a few photo's were proved to have been photo-shopped by journalists, they related to the bombings etc in the Middle East conflicts a year or 2 back. A quick search would probably find them.

Stop paying them !!! get rid of the propaganda box and get what you need from the internet.
I haven't watched the box for about 5 years and haven't missed it for one second, even though it never used to be off. I've since got rid of all my televisions apart from the small flat screen I use for my cctv.
I stopped paying years ago. I get all the news from the internet and only watch you tube and similar.
They still send the odd letter, I had one recently which I have totally ignored.
You aren't obliged to let them in, they need a warrant and accompanying police to enter your home and they must have reasonable evidence to obtain that.
You can also remove their "implied right of entry" to your property, that means through your gate

My first thought on reading this story was, if this makes headlines throughout Ireland, it will surely point out the elephant in the room and the Irish, I hope, would return an even bigger no vote to Lisbon constitreaty than they did the last time. Providing there's no jiggery-pokery with the ballot papers it should be a resounding NO !!

My take on their idea of "Sustainable Development" is to grant developers permission to demolish perfectly sound buildings like old pubs, clubs, small businesses, empty churches and build block after block after block of cheap, nasty, rabbit hutch flats. Or in the case of good sound council houses, demolish and sell the land to private housing associations or developers, who replace with cheap, crap materials, copies of what's just been demolished. The name of the game is to sell off as much public building land as possible. They can't build houses on greenbelt, but they can build schools, so they use an excuse like the "Building Schools For The Future" scam, declare several schools within a borough not fit for purpose and not big enough to take all the projected numbers of children, so they can sell the schools including playing fields to private developers who will eventually fill the land with thousands of houses. meanwhile they thieve by CPO, excessive acreage to requirements, of greenbelt, at a minuscule fraction of the price of building land, build a massive piece of flimsy modern crap, shove thousands of children from some of the schools they've closed from all over the borough into it, in an attempt to force racial integration. Result = Council coffers and pockets lined, Kids beating each other up, or worse, in the playground.
While all this is happening thousands of acres of farm and other open land will be CPO'd to build bypasses that no one will use because they bypass the thousands of new houses that have created the traffic congestion in the first place.. That's Liebour logic !!!!

Had these maniacs left our country to it's own people no housing development would have been necessary. With the exception of the U.S. all developed western nations were and still are in decline, all that was necessary was to maintain the status quo. Eventually we could have even reclaimed some of those concrete jungles and turned them back into real sustainable development.

Regardless it is a disgusting abuse of tax payers money. and every penny should be paid back. The average working man who doesn't earn a fraction of her take home salary has to pay for these items out of his earnings. Avaricious pigs the lot of 'em !!!
