What is with the PC crowd, didn't their mothers ever teach them: Sticks and stone can break my bones, but names can never hurt me.?

None of her LGBT friends knew "tranny" was offensive, yet somehow someone thinks it is. Huh? I am not going to worry too much since I can not think of an instance where I ever had to use the full word or its slang equivalent.

I think I stay much more current than the average American since I'm online so much and tend to be a news junkie. I just have one question, how can someone so obscure or so one note be influential when no one even knows who or what they do or have done. I keep waiting for someone to say, "It's a joke."

Susan Hayward was and still is my all time favorite actress. My favorite movie of hers was "I Want to Live." She won the Best Actress Oscar for that one. I also loved her in "With a Song in My Heart," another role in which she was nominated for Best Actress. Beautiful, tough, and a great actress.

Collective bargaining is NOT A RIGHT! It is a contract agreement to negotiate or authorize representative(s) to negotiate for the group. IT IS NOT A RIGHT.

15 years ago @ Big Journalism - Is This About Dancing ... · 0 replies · 0 points

I've watched the whole season and I have not been surprised to see Bristol continue week after week. I figured she would stay on until all the other mediocre dancers were eliminated. I figured this past week would be the week she would leave with her head held high after making it as far as she did, She has improved greatly. So I was surprised that Brandy was the one to go this week, since it has been obvious for weeks that the judges had decided that Brandy should be the winner. There is only one person who should win and that is Jennifer Grey. I was glad to see Brandy go, not because she wasn't good, but because she acted like a b**ch and her partner is probably the least likeable of any of the professional dancers. People don't like contestants who think they deserve to win.

I think the public understands that the only reason they had Bristol on the show was to embarass her mother and make fun of a Palin in a venue that encouages making fun of contestants. They don't like that and they used their voting privilege to show their dislike. Jennifer should win and I think she will win.

pot is a dangerous psychoactive drug

Good grief. There aren't even any documented, let alone anecdotal, cases of anyone overdosing on pot. It has been in use for thousands of years. It was legal in the US until the alcohol lobby got it reclassified as a Sched I drug equivalent to heroin back in the 30s. Ridiculous.

I'm not saying that I want people high on the job or on the road, but I don't want them out there on alcohol or many of the legal prescribed drugs either. The first time marijuana was recommended to me, I had just had to have half my stomach removed and every single pain killer prescribed made me violently ill. I lived in a state where a single joint could put you in prison for 10 years. This was 23 years ago on the East Coast. My doctor said, "You didn't hear this from me, but my advice is to find some pot and roll a joint, it is a natural substance, and we (meaning the medical community) know that is very effective at combating nausea and pain."

When I fractured all 5 of my lumbar vertebrae and had no health insurance, I paid $60 to go to the local walk-in general practitioner clinic to beg for something for the pain. When the doctor found out that I'd been self-medicating with up to 24 Advil a day, he looked like he was going to be sick. He lambasted me for being on the road to complete kidney failure. Then he said that since past experience has shown I couldn't take the standard prescribed pain meds nor could I afford to pay full price (no insurance) to fill prescriptions, he suggested that a particular strain of pot was the best for me since it didn't give a head high, but was great for a body high that would help my pain and also relax the muscles so I could move better and actually get a full night's sleep. These weren't pot doctors. These were doctors in 3 different states who all recognize the medical relief and efficacy of marijuana.

Although I came of age during the height of the hippie movement, I was never interested being way too straight-laced as well as married to a career military man. So now I'm at retirement age and forced to admit that I was in my mid to late 40s before I saw marijuana in person or found out anyone I knew was using or had used it. So although I'm an aging Boomer, I am definitely not an aging hippie. I am, however, a strong supporter of medical marijuana.

Oh and BTW, anyone who thinks pot is more dangerous than alcohol has never dealt with an alcoholic or been the victim of alcohol-induced rage. I've never ever seen a man beat his wife and kids while smoking pot. Can you say the same for those who consume alcohol. Alcohol is THE most dangerous drug out there.

Chris Rowan continues to spout the alcohol lobby line with virtually no real facts. If it is such a health issue, then why have I had no less than 4 separate surgeons (2 in CA, 1 ea in MD (Johns Hopkins Hospital) and IN (Methodist Hospital) recommend marijuana to combat post-surgical nausea and pain?

The measure went down because it was a tax measure. No one here wants more taxes.

Marijuana for medical purposes is already legal. For everyone else it is a minor infraction, not even as serious as a jay walking ticket. From a legalizing point of view, it was unnecessary.

I located and called over 150 MM clinics before the election and only one was pro Prop 19. All the rest said it was designed to put more money in state coffers and raise the price, just like they do with cigs and gas.

Speaking of JAG, why the heck isn't David James Elliott in a new series? He has to be the sexiest man alive.

My all time favorite of the modern era was JAG, now 24. No comedy shows on my list.
